PLAINVILLE— Scott Saunders, chairman of Wings and Wheels, hopes this yearÕs event June 13 at Robertson Airport will be bigger and better than ever.

The Fourth Annual Wings and Wheels, sponsored by Interstate Aviation, Bristol Auto Club and the Plainville Fire Company, will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the airport at 62 Johnson Ave. In addition to food and vendor booths, the family-friendly event will feature a classic car show, aviation exhibits, plane and helicopter rides, crash simulators courtesy of the police department and live music by The Curl DaddyÕs, a local surf rock band. Proceeds will benefit The Petit Family Foundation and the Plainville Food Pantry.

Last year, Saunders said 5,000 people and 40 vendors attended the event and more than 400 people entered their vehicles into the car show.

ÒWe have a really diverse and interesting collection of cars show up every year,Ó he said. ÒLast year we saw everything from a 1923 Ford to a new Tesla. IÕm partial to Ô70s muscle cars and Ô60s Corvettes myself. For those interested in aviation, they will get the chance to tour a large jet or take a helicopter ride. This is a great event, with great food, that supports two amazing organizations in our town.Ó

ÒIt sells itself,Ó said Andrea Saunders, Scott SaundersÕ wife and the chairwoman of the Board of Education. ÒPeople come out in droves to support these groups, and it doesnÕt matter how old you are, everybody loves to come look at the cars. ItÕs a great event to showcase Plainville and the airport.Ó

Saunders said the event is well supported by the community and has been growing steadily each year. Last year, Wings and Wheels raised $15,000 for the Petit Family Foundation and for the Plainville Food Pantry, a $2,500 increase from the previous year. Saunders said Wings and Wheels has collected $75,000 for the two charities since its inception, and that he wants to see it outdo itself every year.

ÒIf we could raise 16,000 for each of them this year, IÕd be thrilled,Ó he said.

No pets or alcohol will be allowed on the grounds. Free on-site parking will be available, with motorcycle parking on the pavement next to the main entrance. Shuttle bus service from The Middle School of Plainville at 150 Northwest Drive, Ferguson Electrical Contractors at 112 Northwest Drive and Loureiro Engineering at 100 Northwest Drive will be provided by Dattco.

Admission is $5 for adults, $2 for children 5 to 11 and free for children under 5.
