The fourth annual Plainville Wings & Wheels Fly-in and Classic Car Show was enjoyed by a few thousand people Saturday, June 13, at Robertson Airport.

The event, which raised money for the Petit Family Foundation and The Plainville Community Food Pantry Òwas very successful,Ó according to Andrea Saunders who oversaw the event with her husband Scott Saunders. ÒThe weather held out, it was a beautiful day, the Curl Daddys surf band performed all day and the fire company provided great food. We do it for two great charities and it showcased the airport. It was a great community event.Ó

Many visitors shared SaundersÕ enthusiasm.

Laureen Baker, from Bristol, rode a Robinson R44 helicopter with her sons, Kevin, 16, and Regan, 14. ÒThey love flights, and itÕs another experience for them not every child gets the chance to enjoy,Ó she said.

Kevin dreams of becoming a pilot.

Riders enjoyed brief flights towards Lake Compounce and back on helicopters, tail wheels and small planes.

On one side of the show, visitors viewed planes and flew in them, while on the other side, folks enjoyed the classic cars. A full range of antique and recent cars were on display, with trophies awarded to some 40 owners.

Michael Frangione, from Bristol, showed off his 1955 Chevy, which he said was for sale. ÒIt has a 383 Stroker engine, R704 transmission, 20-inch wheels in back, 18-inch in front with a digital dash. ItÕs an all metal complete car.Ó The yellow and white car gleamed in the sun. ÒItÕs blond high maintenance,Ó he quipped.

Over the first three years of the Plainville Wings & Wheels Fly-in and Classic Car Show, more than $75,000 was raised for the charities.
