Hospital series on caring for difficult kids

BRISTOL — The Parent and Child Center at Bristol Hospital is hosting a two-part series entitled Transforming the Difficult Child: The Nurturing Heart Approach. The series will be offered at the Parent and Child Center, 9 Prospect St., on Mondays Jan. 18 and 25, from 6 to 8 p.m.
This two-night workshop will help participants gather insight into the mind of a difficult child and discover strategies on how to break patterns of negative responses, regardless of the child’s age and level of severity. The group will have opportunities to role play various scenarios to allow participants to learn the right balance between being positive and setting limits with your challenging child.
The class will be co-facilitated by a certified parent educator and a retired school psychologist. One copy of “An Interactive Guide to The Nurtured Heart Approach” will be raffled off the last night of class.
The fees for the two-part series have been reduced for all participants thanks to grants from the Petit Family Foundation, the Bristol Brass General Grant Fund, the Douglas and Noreen Schumann Special Interest Fund, and the Main Street Community Foundation in partnership with the Stocker Foundation. The current fee is $12 per parent or $14 per childcare provider. A sliding fee scale and scholarships are available to low-income families.
