Petit Family Foundation Awards Connecticut Children's Injury Prevention Center with Grant Funding for New Fellowship Program

HARTFORD, Conn. – Connecticut ChildrenŐs Medical CenterŐs Injury Prevention Center has recently been awarded a $3,000 grant from the Petit Family Foundation for funding of its newly established Hayley Petit Injury and Violence Fellowship program.

"In her short life, Hayley was a role model, not only for her contemporaries, but for adults as well, for what we all might do to inspire and help others make the most of the gifts of their lives and that of others," said Burch Tracy Ford, Chair of the Petit Family Foundation Grants Committee.

The grant will help support The Hayley Petit Injury and Violence Fellowship program, which will afford four young women currently enrolled in high school or college, the opportunity to develop and/or assist an existing project geared toward injury and violence prevention. Key focus areas will include intimate partner violence, teen driving safety, youth suicide and elderly fall prevention.

ŇThis fellowship aligns with the Petit Family Foundation mission to foster the education of young people, especially women in the sciences. By involving students in research to reduce injury and violence in society, we hope to encourage the next generation of critical thinkers, dedicated scientists, and healthcare providersÓ said Garry Lapidus, PA-C, MPH, Director of the Injury Prevention Center and Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Public Health. ŇHaving this fellowship named in honor of Haley Petit is inspirational and will help foster students to pursue work in injury and violence preventionÓ.
