BRISTOL — The Petit Family Foundation has awarded a grant of $4,000 to the Boys & Girls Club of Bristol Family Center to underwrite the newly created Venture Crew program.

“Venture Crew will give inner-city girls ages 14 to 18 a chance to experience activities that are fun and challenging in areas that may be foreign to them. Venturing uses moral situations to help young adults develop the ability to make responsible choices that reflect the concern for what is a risk and how it will affect others involved,” according to a statement from the club.

The Venture Crew will engage in activities on Fridays, once a month, with camping trips and other team building events being planned for 2016.

Based in Plainville, the foundation honors the memories of Jennifer Hawke-Petit and her daughters Hayley Elizabeth Petit and Michaela Rose Petit of Cheshire, who died tragically in 2007, by continuing the kindness, idealism and activism that defined their lives.

The foundation’s funds are given to foster the education of young people, especially women in the sciences; to improve the lives of those affected by chronic illnesses; and to support efforts to protect and help those affected by violence.

“The Boys & Girls Club of Bristol Family Center plays a vital role in the lives of children and their families. The Petit Family Foundation is proud to support an organization that provides children with the resources to become responsible caring adults,” said William Petit Jr., foundation president.
