Holy Cross School Knitting Club wins state, local awards

Holy Cross School Knitting Club won a Jefferson Award on April 24 at the Chase Center in Wilmington from the local Delaware Jefferson Award chapter.

Each year, the Jefferson Awards program seeks out corporate sponsors. This year United Healthcare joined the Jefferson Awards efforts. In doing so, the corporation asked to review all of the submissions for awards in the state related to health and wellness. Holy Cross was one of three in the state that was selected by United Healthcare for a monetary sponsorship of $500 to help fund future knitting club endeavors.

That same day, the Holy Cross School Knitting Club was recognized by Dover Mayor Robin Christiansen with a Jefferson Award at the local downtown Dover ceremony at City Hall.

Holy Cross received word May 5 that the Petit Family Foundation had awarded the knitting club a $1,500 grant which the school’s club applied for earlier in the school year.

The Petit Family Foundation honors the memories of Jennifer Hawke-Petit, Hayley Elizabeth Petit and Michael Rose Petit. The foundation’s funds are given to foster the education of young people, especially women in the sciences; to improve the lives of those affected by chronic illnesses; and to support efforts to protect and help those affected by violence.
